I've been running the 428F for a couple of weeks now. Overall, it's dependable. Controls feel smooth and precise though they might slightly falter under heavy strain. Price seemed fair, but you may find alternatives with similar performance at a lower cost. Service intervals are reasonable and maintenance's straightforward. Comfort's alright, but there's room for improvement. If you're after reliability, this machine ticks the boxes.

Been running these machines for years. Cab is comfy - seat turns 180°, height and fore/aft adjust, armrests, good padding. Heater and AC do their job and there are useful storage spots and phone holder, so long shifts are easier. Controls are intuitive: paddle for forward/neutral/reverse, two brake pedals, diff lock settings and separate front/bucket levers - you get fine control of the bucket and travel. Few annoyances: hazard switch placed awkwardly, some small trim and wiring needed tape to stop rattling, radio is basic. Tire issue happened - patched yesterday then had to go back under warranty, and tyre shop timing wasted time. Overall I like its ergonomics and control, but expect minor fit-and-finish work.

Used this model in various construction settings. Operational controls are decent but somewhat tricky initially, although you'll get used to them with time. Comfort levels are manageable for extended use. The reliability stands out - faced no downtime issues, which is crucial on-site. Service costs feel typical for this type of equipment.

I recently spent a week using the Caterpillar 428F, and here's my take. First off, I really appreciated the efficient fuel consumption, especially thanks to the engine management system built-in. The improved hydraulic system provided smooth operation, which stood out during tasks requiring fine control. However, the cabin noise was slightly higher than expected, although its ergonomic layout made up for it. Overall, it’s a well-balanced machine.

Recently had the chance to operate this machine. Found the seating arrangement quite accommodating, and the operational interface is sufficient for most tasks. Reliability assured no project delays. Comfort during long hours is adequate, though there's room for improvement in minor areas like noise levels.

Short report from a driver who uses the 428F daily. Love the straightforward layout of levers and pedals - gas pedal and separate steering pedal make low-speed work easy, and the gear button for 1/2/3/4 plus neutral is simple to use on the fly. Diff lock modes work as described, you can set it to spin only rear, lock all on brake, or full coordinated drive - handy in sticky ground. Cabin is decent: seat is soft, rotates, and the heater works great in cold. Some stuff annoys me: a couple of switches pop out if you’re rough, the hazard light is awkward near the wheel, and the stereo is basic. Had to sit around waiting for a tyre guy once; warranty covered the fix but it cost time. Good machine overall but expect to tweak small things.

Had a couple of weeks on the 428F2 and yeah, feels like a mix of old and new. Fuel tank is massive which is handy, not filling up all the time. The new pump does seem better, never really bogs down, though I'm not wild about the positioning of the rear console stuff-like, it's fine, just feels like you need longer arms. The tele-stick goes deep, nice for trenching. Mud never seems to get into the service points, so less mess when doing checks, that's a win. Not everything feels shiny, there's always some little thing, but overall it's doing the job. Wouldn't mind a few more places to stash my stuff in the cab though, drinks holders are there but not heaps of storage.

I bought it new. And literally a year later he sold it. The reason is banal, it is pouring. The operating time is 1500, and it feels like 15000. Vibration in the box, all the cylinders, distributors and a lot of hoses flowed in the very first frosts, at times there was a hum from the pump, the boom began to dangle at the handle attachment point already at 500m / h and many more little things that can be describe for a long time. In general, for this money it is better to buy two used tractors. I am very upset, I will no longer buy Caterpillar in my life and will not advise anyone

Had a chance to operate the 428F on a training project. The machine offers solid power delivery and the responsiveness of the controls impressed me. The telescopic capabilities allowed for greater operational scope, although I found adjusting to the joystick setup a bit tricky initially. Maintenance access points are well thought out, which is practical for daily checks.
